cb3 design carried out the master planning for 2 event sites for the inaugural 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships. The championships are a major international event and 2023 was the first time in the competition’s history that all 13 UCI championships were brought together as a single mega event. Although awarded to Glasgow, competitions took place in venues all across Scotland, including here in the Tweed Valley.
Working with ESO Sports (now part of Warner Bros Discovery Sports) cb3 design planned the event centres for the Cross-Country disciplines and Marathon events based in Glentress Forest and Traquair House. Once the contract had been awarded to the event provider, we were involved from the earliest stages to develop the site layouts.
At the pinnacle of the sport, the event was delivered by a world class team of consultants and suppliers, including project managers and course designers who have delivered for Olympic games, international broadcasters and medical teams. From first aid and camera locations to street food and power, from Nation bases to anti-doping - all had to be considered and accommodated in the development of the event sites, to support teams and visitors from all over the world.
“The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships have been declared a huge success after a preliminary estimate of 1 million spectators turned out to watch the festival of cycling, while millions more tuned in around the world to see the 11 days of cycling action taking place in Glasgow and across Scotland.” UCI Cycling World Champs
