This former public house is to be converted and extended to create an International Student Centre for a Scottish private school. It will be a fully accessible, distinct facility within the school to provide teaching accommodation for up to 30 students along with space for flexible use.
The design intention creates a clear distinction between the existing building and the extension sitting on the North-West elevation, allowing the arrangement and history of the building to be legible from the exterior. Similarly, the entrance and ancillary spaces are intended to feel as though they are ‘outside’ the existing structure, with a new internal stair rising against the existing external exposed stone wall.
