School Residential Accommodation

Refurbishment of and extension to boarding school accommodation:

The proposal is to refurbish, alter and extend a Grade B Listed building to provide updated and additional student residential accommodation for a Scottish boarding school.

The building is to be fully refurbished to bring the facilities up to modern standards and improve accessibility within the existing house. Accessible accommodation will be provided within the new extension proposed to the North wing, within an existing garden area. This will be an ‘honest’ modern addition to allow the history of the site to be clearly legible. The extension will follow the massing of the existing North wing, with matching roof pitch, eaves and ridge heights. The new stair will be inset on plan, with a different cladding treatment and reduced roof height, to provide a clear distinction between old and new. Away from the stair the extension will reflect existing features - window proportions, dormer windows and parapet gable - but with a modern interpretation.
